Catechisms and Confessions

1647 Westminster Confession: The Greatest Confession in the History of the Christian Church

The Heidelberg Catechism, written in 1563, originated in one of the few pockets of Calvinistic faith in the Lutheran and Catholic territories of Germany.

Comprehensive reference tool, 2021 update. Westminster Confession, Shorter and Larger Catechisms, RP Testimony (in parallel columns with the Confession), directories for church government and worship, vows and forms of the church, and a history of standards and covenants.

In 1677, Reformed Baptists anonymously published the Second London Confession of Faith. This was a confession based upon the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Savoy Declaration.

The Belgic Confession, written in 1561, owes its origin to the need for a clear and comprehensive statement of Reformed faith during the time of the Spanish inquisition in the Lowlands.

Commentaries

Maclaren was born in Glasgow on February 11, 1826, and died in Manchester on May 5, 1910. He had been for almost sixty-five years a minister, entirely devoted to his calling. He lived more than almost any of the great preachers of his time between his study, his pulpit, his pen.

Reviews and ratings of biblical and theological studies

He owed his fame as a preacher to his great oratorical gifts, humour, and shrewd common sense, which showed itself especially in his treatment of contemporary problems.

These electronic texts of Calvin's Commentaries were prepared through the labor of volunteers for the OnLine Bible project and the Christian Classics Ethereal Library in conjunction with the good folks at Ages Software. Much work in programming and editing was done by Skip Gaede.

Dictionaries

CARM stands for the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry.  It was founded in October of 1995 and is one of the oldest and largest Christian Apologetics sites on the internet.  CARM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  Its purpose is to equip Christians, defend the faith, and reach the lost for Jesus. 

The DNI Bible project is interdisciplinary in its approach, and focuses on the nature images encapsulated within the literary compositions of the Hebrew Bible. The Dictionary is easily searchable by the name of the item in Hebrew characters, in transcription, and by its English translation. Each item takes its place within one of the five ecological fields: fauna, flora, landscape characteristics, climate systems, water sources.

Language Resources

Complete audio files for those who find on-line reading both burdensome and uncomfortable, and who would much more profit from listening to the Psalms. Biblical Greek (Koine) is essential for a complete Christian education. The Institute of Biblical Greek has collected the following resources to promote the study of Biblical (Koine) Greek in Christian education and to help students learning Biblical (Koine) Greek. 

The Patrologia Graeca (or Patrologiae Cursus Completus, Series Graeca) is an edited collection of writings by the Christian Church Fathers and various secular writers in the Greek language. It consists of 161 volumes produced in 1857–1866 by J.P. Migne's Imprimerie Catholique, Paris.

The Patrologia Latina is an enormous collection of the writings of the Church Fathers and other ecclesiastical writers published by Jacques-Paul Migne between 1841 and 1855, with indices published between 1862 and 1865.

The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (IEP) (ISSN 2161-0002) was founded in 1995 to provide open access to detailed, scholarly, peer-reviewed information on key topics and philosophers in all areas of philosophy. The Encyclopedia receives no funding, and it operates through the volunteer work of the editors, authors, volunteers, and technical advisers.

This website contains the complete contents of the 12-volume Jewish Encyclopedia, which was originally published between 1901-1906. The Jewish Encyclopedia, which recently became part of the public domain, contains over 15,000 articles and illustrations.

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (20 December 1899-1 March 1981) was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of evangelicalism in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London.

In addition to preserving the collection for posterity and providing a study space for scholars and students, the library will allow Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to equip pastors, teachers, and students to fulfill God’s calling on their lives.

Spurgeon Gems was created in 2001 by Perry Boardman of Eternal Life Ministries. The site began with less than 10 volumes of sermons and now has a complete 63 volume set as well as other Bible-based resources, which were freely provided by friends of the ministry. 

This site is dedicated to the teachings of the late Dr. S. Lewis Johnson, Jr.
